Prof. Roy Sembel

Distinguished Chair for Finance and Investment, IPMI International Business School

Prof. Ir. Roy Sembel, MBA, Ph.D. is a professor of finance and investment at IPMI International Business School, with more than 40 years of experience across academia and business. He holds a bachelor’s degree from IPB, an MBA from the Rotterdam School of Management and Wharton, and a doctorate in corporate finance from the University of Pittsburgh.

His career spans consulting at McKinsey & Company, serving as a commissioner of Bank Niaga and a director of the Jakarta Futures Exchange, and a range of leadership roles in universities and companies. He is a former Dean of IPMI, where he now holds the Distinguished Chair for Finance and Investment.

Alongside founding several ventures in media, technology and consulting, he writes books and articles, teaches, supervises theses and dissertations, and speaks widely on finance, investment and business strategy.

Ready to turn your idea into a business?

The Academy sessions are free and open to everyone. Join YES 2026 as a participant and you also submit a business proposal reviewed by practitioners, pitch at the Semi-Finals, and compete for the Grand Final in front of a five-seat panel — 9 September 2026 – 31 January 2027. Free to enter, for Indonesian citizens aged 18–35 living in the UAE.
